Nothing funny here, just some tragic irony. I launched this site with a post comparing the relatively light horror of Halloween ghouls and American gore-fest cinema to the far scarier ghouls and gore that the Islamic world offers. Last week, that musing was darkly incarnated when Moustapha Akkad, the executive producer of the “Halloween” movies, lost his life, and his daughter’s life, in a reality far worse than all eight of his films put together. When the Akkads were murdered by suicide bombers as they checked in to a Jordan hotel for a wedding, it was a stark reminder that today, Halloween is with us all year ‘round.
